What is your evening skincare routine?

Filters are great, but great skin is better!

We all have our versions of an evening skincare routine. But is it adequate, and are we getting the most out of our products? Everyone has their versions, and even with a quick internet search, they aren’t all the same. The top 5 web searches will tell you to do your routine like them. However, they are all widely different in which order they do their routine and how many products you should be using.

As a beginner, it can get confusing. If you want to start, use these four skincare products first:

 1. Make-up remover - Does what it says on the bottle. It removes your makeup. You don’t want to go to bed with make-up on as it is destructive to your skin and can result in premature ageing and collagen breakdown.

 2. Cleanser  - Simply reacts with any leftover makeup and dirt on the skin in a way that allows everything to be rinsed away with water. The cleanser will help clear your face, ready for any products you put on after.

 3. Spot Treatment - You can effectively treat breakouts at night with anti-inflammatory and drying products

 4. Moisturizer - Your night moisturizer and day moisturizer might not be the same, as the night moisturizer will be richer because it assists with skin repair.

Once you have mastered these four skincare products, you might want to add another step to your routine. The consensus after Make-up Remover and Cleanser is either an Exfoliator or Toner.

Exfoliator - Don’t use this every day but twice a week, as it will strip your skin of all its natural oils and goodness. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. Some chemical exfoliators can also prevent breakouts. As well as reduce the appearance of the first signs of ageing.

However, you should avoid using an exfoliator if you are experiencing irritations on your skin.

Toner - People love or hate using toner. Toners can help remove leftover residue from other steps in your routine and balance your skin’s pH, whereas other people say it is useless and does nothing for them.

Serums -  Serums deliver highly concentrated skin benefits. Because of their formula type, more of the product penetrates your skin’s surface. However, your morning and nighttime serums should be different.

Eye Creams - Are used as a form of preventative care. They're beneficial because they provide targeted treatment to the thin skin around your eyes. Also, applying overnight gives the product a chance to penetrate your skin. Plus, certain formulas can help boost collagen production.
